A Homage to Felicity

A young female high school senior follows her high school crush to college to be near him.

Felicity has been one of my favorite television shows ever since it premiered in 1998. I watched a lot of shows on the WB at the time and the demise of the WB has been one of my greatest disappointments in the world of television. Some of my all-time favorite shows were produced for the WB and Felicity was of course, one of them. People might remember "Dawson's Creek", but some of my favorite shows on the WB were: "Popular", "Unhappily Ever After", "What I Like About You", "Animaniacs", "Pinky and the Brain", and several other great shows.

But my favorite of all of them was Felicity. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for bildungsromans, especially when I was undergoing my own real-life bildungsroman. Felicity was a couple of years ahead of me in high school and showcased an idealized collegiate experience without being too unrealistic. Some of my favorite episodes during Felicity's run were the ones that tackled the difficult issues, such as date rape.

There's also a far simpler reason as to why I love Felicity so much. It stars Keri Russell - my favorite actress. And the reason why she's my favorite actress is because of Felicity Porter herself. I've enjoyed being able to follow Russell's career since Felicity, which isn't always the case with some actors or actresses. If you're looking for a television series to watch on DVD, you should definitely consider Felicity as one of your options.
